CARE is a major international humanitarian agency delivering broad-spectrum emergency relief and long-term international development projects.
Care India has recently become a full member of the governing board of the CARE International confederation. This is the first time that CARE’s International Board Meeting is happening in India and representatives from 14 countries took part to discuss the future of CARE globally.
“We are very happy and proud to host this event by CARE international which is a confederation of 14 countries which are both OECB and Non-OECB. We have done programmes in 80 countries through different ways. This sort of board meeting happens twice in a year in different places and this time it is meeting in India for the very first time. We were branch program since sixty years but now have become a member of Care international which means we would have a say in decision making it is an opportunity to showcase our learning to other members coming from other countries and learn from them too.” Says Dr. Mohammad Musa, CEO, CARE India.

This meeting is important because the CARE group is transforming itself to be more impactful in the field of poverty and inequality so that it becomes more sustainable and skilled. CARE India is excited to be on the board as it would expose the realities of people and what they suffer from day to day basis. CARE India would also show the work they have done in the field of health and poverty, and the impact it has made which would surely make the International organisation come back again and take good decisions.
On the occasion, Secretary General Robert Glasser said, “It is important for CARE India to be a part of this meeting because of the role it is playing in the global political scenario and coming up as a dynamic economy. Also, it is a fortunate event because we are learning so much from CARE India that we would like to spread these learning in other countries as well. We have seen a lot of work by them in health and poverty sector and it is very inspiring. It has been able to demonstrate the better way of doing things.”

Adding more to it, he said, “The whole organisation is going to change with CARE India being the member of CARE International and it would be a wonderful change for all of us. One of the discussions in our board meeting would be how to accelerate this change and even the OECB members are willing to witness this change and we believe even if the change is going to focus on a specific country it would benefit every sector of other participating countries.”

We collected information from various sources and have primary data too. We learned that there are various reasons of inequality to which we are trying to get solutions. One of the focus is to how to act better in gender equality and diversity, how to improve government mechanism be it the local governance or private or us or anyone like us. Benefits would be to be able to learn from the works of the westerns and also, to have the opportunity to play a big role in the scenario so it is a very good opportunity to influence the global strategy.”
Briefing media about the focus of CARE India
Ending the conversation, CARE India said that it chose to focus on women and girls because their experience shows that, when women are equipped with the proper resources, they have the ability to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty. Women are disproportionately affected by poverty and discrimination and that is why they are the most important part of the solution to overcome poverty.
