BJP Leader Gopinath Munde Dies
Experienced and well-known BJP leader and the union rural development minister Gopinath Munde died on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. The late minister was brought to AIIMS trauma center at around 6:30 A.M after a car accident at the intersection of Prithviraj Road and Tughlak Road in Delhi, where he was declared dead.
64 year old, Maharashtrian leader Munde was recently selected as the union cabinet minister and was on his way to the airport to catch his flight back home. An AIIMS spokesperson quoted, ‘multiple internal injuries’ as the reason behind his death.
“In an extremely shocking and sad demise of Shri Gopinath Munde, the nation has lost a great leader. He had come up from a humble background and built his strong base in the masses, to become a national leader. He was a leader who had an insight into both, organizational as well as administrative issues”, expressed senior BJP leader, Nitin Gadkari in his condolence message. He added, “In his demise, I have lost a colleague, under whose guidance several like me have worked for decades. It is an irreparable loss to all of us”.
Prime-minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Extremely saddened & shocked by the demise of my friend & colleague GopinathMundeji. His demise is a major loss for the Nation & the Govt”.
The police has arrested the driver who allegedly hit Munde’s Maruti Suzuki SX4 with his Ertiga after jumping the red light. An FIR has been registered against him under section 279 and 304(A) at Tughlaq road police station.
