BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!

Arif Ali’s directorial debut ‘Lekar Hum Deewana Dil’ sadly hasn’t been able to make a home in audiences’ heart. Despite of having A.R.Rahman scoring the music, the movie seems to lack a convincing story base which could have made the audiences survive the 140 hours. Once you have watched the first 15 minutes of the movie it gets pretty predictable making it a bore, thereafter. The story revolves around Dino and Karishma (played by Armaan Jain and Deeksha Seth respectively) who are such good friends that everyone in their college thinks of them being in a relationship (just like in ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’). In the beginning they both keep denying the fact but later on they realize that they are meant for each other.

The first 10 minutes of the movie, Karishma battles her parents over the issue of getting married. She wants to live life on her own terms whereas they want her to marry the suitable guy. Dino and Karishma discuss this over drinks, eventually, they get high and decide to marry each other. So, on the same day they elope to Goa in efforts to stay out of touch with their families and have the time of their life.

After a few lovey-dovey days they find it hard to stand each other and want to get divorced as soon as possible. Apart from the small unnecessary quarrels, the couple elopes so many times that it leaves the audience in a tussle to build a connection with the story and the two characters. The actors lack screen presence and seem out of place. Unlike movies like Raja Hindustani, Chalte Chalte, Saathiya etc. where the eloped pair strike a chord with the audiences, LHDD certainly fails to do that.

As a director, Arif Ali hasn’t been able to visualize effervescently, he surely needs to take lessons from his brother’s book and as far as the actors are considered, there is a lot to be worked upon. The climax of the movie is a ‘happy-ending’, again extremely predictable. The humor is lame and dialogue delivery definitely lacks the punch. Armaan needs to learn a lot from his cousins and Deeksha could have been given more space to perform. With the audiences accepting new stories and actors, they certainly stand a chance, not this time round though.
