Art you just can’t miss
Inspired by relationships, emotions and the innocence of kids, Oinam Dilip is one of those artists’ who wish to go back to their childhood and relive it. In a conversation with A.Kameshwari from One World News, Dilip, who has done his Bachelors in Fine Arts from Delhi College of Arts, expresses the hidden layers of his personality apart from being an eye-striking painter.
Hailing from Manipur and settled in Delhi since the past fourteen years, Dilip says that no one here has ever made him feel like an outsider and for him Delhi is as good and comfortable as home, “It’s been 14 years here in Delhi and it is like my second home. My friends, teachers and clients have never made me feel that I don’t belong here.”
Dilip further said that his family, friends and work are among few things without which he cannot survive. While he shared about his likes and dislikes, he also narrated the best moment of his growing up years, “My childhood was one of the best times in my life. My mother was posted in a hill station, Bishnupur (27kms from Manipur). So, I spent more than two decades of my life amidst the beautiful landscapes. The small river next to my house is something I can never forget. I could hear the sound of the water flowing and birds chirping every morning. It was magical to my ears. Playing hide and seek and the classical marble game was a prominent part of my growing up years.”
Adding up to the conversation, Dilip says that the world of art has given him so much that he has nothing more to ask for and when it comes to compliments he feels each and every compliment is important to grow in a positive way. He admires a lot of artists but Atul Dodiya and Chittrovanu Mazumdar are those craftsmen, he looks up to. He also feels that every artist is unique in his/her own sense and it would not be justified to judge himself on his own so, he prefers people to describe him through his art-work.
“I feel there are complexities in life and we all encounter it as we grow. I really adore my childhood days. The eye of a child never lies. They very intensely project their heart. A heart which breaths for the call of friends, sharing secrets in exchange of promises, the bond of love and relationships of love-birds are the common themes”, says Dilip, giving an idea of the line of thought which goes behind his work.
On wondering how he produces such clear and attractive pieces of art, Dilip explains that how painting comes most naturally to him and how everything around him turns into a piece of art, “Ever since I remember, I was drawing and painting. Painting comes natural to me and I think I am blessed with an artistic talent. The world sometimes take up a life of its own when your imagination is full of wonders and your creativity is just waiting to come out on a blank canvas or a piece of paper.”
Dilip further expresses that he aspires to open an Art-house in Manipur which would be like an residential studio where artists can work and exhibit, “As our state is really backward in terms of exposure, I would like this place to be a meeting point where artist, art curators and buyers from across the nation can connect with the home grown artists. There is a lot of hidden talent being wasted due to lack of exposure here and this project is really the need of the hour.”
Photography, playing the guitar, sketching and cooking are few other things which interests Dilip apart from his love for painting. He believes that he has a long way to travel but his goal is to reach a point where people recognize him through his art. While ending the conversation, Dilip just sends across a message to our readers to believe in what they do and never give up on anything.
