Applicants: They can’t “DU” this to us!
Recently, the Delhi High Court slammed the University of Delhi for the mismanagement and chaos in regards to the 2014 admissions, which led to a population of students who are confused and some being deprived of an admission and from pursuing the course of their choice. The FYUP or Four-Year Undergraduate Program, had attracted a lot of criticism from the students, parents and teachers. Hence, after one year of continuous protests from various student and teachers’ unions, parents, etc., the management withdrew their FYUP plans.
Then the unexpected happened, it created further chaos and people still protested for making the process so complicated.
After the whole fiasco, recently, Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice R S Endlaw stated that the dilemma of a student who would not be able to get admissions in any college, for instance, in B. Com (H) in spite of being eligible for any course under the sports or any other quota according to the FYUP, as, previously, under the Three-Year Program, mathematics in H.S. was mandatory.
DU students worried about their future
In spite of the dismissal of the plea by the single-judge bench of Maharaja Agrasen College, of University of Delhi, The court directed the college to admit students under the sports quota.
Further, the panel said, that the mess is solely created by the university and its inadequacy in planning ahead. They changed the policy without a forethought on the future repercussions, by first persisting with their Four-Year Undergraduate Program and then withdrawing at the last moment.
This would result in the appellant loss of one year of academic life.
Then, there is also a point of the student coping up with the change of syllabi, which would of course impact the academic performance over-all.
Sidharth Singh, who is the petitioner, challenged the decision of the single bench, but his plea was dismissed on the ground that he shouldn’t have just relied on the brochure, published in the event of Four year Undergraduate Program (FYUP), which were withdrawn later.
Now People are just waiting to see what the outcome of these events is. Let’s hope that some amicable decision can be reached in a timely manner.
