India’s PM – designate
With a population of around 1.3 billion, India has approximately 750 million of eligible voters and the number of votes casted in General Elections 2014 were 550 million.Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) alone, has registered a thumping victory in the history of its existence with a vote count of 181.5 million, now that shows that, of the 750 million people who could have made an effort to cast their votes, only 24% are the ones who are going to decide the Government of India? And have done so!
The Elections have definitely been one of a kind this time round; the approach & discourse of the political parties have been much more pulsating and colourful. No doubt, we see a dramatic ideological shift. After months of campaigning and the nine phases of voting, the mandate was declared on the 16th of May, 2014 with the coalition of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) winning with a clear majority of 336 seats of the 543. The stage is set for the 63 year old, four-time Chief Minister of Gujarat, Hindu nationalist and economic reformer to behold the position of the Prime Minister of India.
This is the first time that a single party has attained a majority in the Lok Sabha Elections after 1984, where the Rajeev Gandhi led Congress party had emerged victorious with a tally of 414 seats.
There is a large population which states that the Indian National Congress has not been upto the mark in carrying out their duties, rather has followed the neglect & move-on policy with perfection. The Aam Aadmi Party ended up winning a mere four seats across the nation, a clear indication that the stepping down of supreme Arvind Kejriwal as the Chief Minister of New Delhi was not a smart move at all. National politics is certainly not an easy pie to gulp. Proven.
Mission 272+ has been accomplished by the Narendra Modi led campaign as the BJP PM candidate had left no stone unturned to topple down the prevailing government but who would have expected the INC to not even cross 60 seats, i.e., they don’t even qualify as the opposition party in the Lok Sabha.
Strengthening the Defence, creating Subsidies, Power supply, Goods & Taxes, controlling Prices and most importantly creating Job opportunities ought to be right on top of the to-do list of this coalition government. At least that’s what we were promised and are hopefully looking forward to.
