A day one remembers one more Hero of our nation: Lal Bhadur Shastri
India’s second Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri was born on October 2, 1904 in Varanasi UP.
After Nehru’s death in 1964, Shastri was chosen as India’s 2nd. prime minister, a short while after the death of India’s first PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
He became famous for giving the clarion call of ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’, which created a nationalistic fervor in the country. This also led to India’s decisive victory over Pakistan in 1965, endearing him to one and all.
Giving equal importance to farmers, along solders, he also spurred India’s green revolution, which made India self sufficient in food production.
Subsequently, on a state visit to Tashkent to sign the Tashkent Accord, he died a mysterious death in 1966.
