A child’s second home
A child’s second home
Children are considered to be the future generation. One has to be a keen observer to look in which particular field a child has interest in.
In this context, One World News interacted with Sapna Bhatia, a teacher of a nursery and day care school who talks about how a nursery school helps in developing the personality of a child.
Sapna Bhatia is the administrator of ‘Learner’s Castle’, a preparatory school in the North campus area of the Capital. It is a school with three floors which comprises of around forty-five children.
In the school, children of the age group 2 to 5 year old can be seen in the premises. They are left freely and observed by the teachers about the areas in which the child is developing interest in.
On asking how independent and comfortable the children feel at school, Komal Jain, a teacher says, “Those children who enter at the age of two weep and yell at the sight of their parent’s leaving the school campus. But then, we let their parents stay with them for a while. Once that child gets engrossed in their work, we ask their parents to shift in the next room. A child too in that way feels contended that the parents are around. Eventually, we ask parents to leave and come back after the school timing gets over”. In that way, the child gets comfortable with the place and people around.
On talking about the personality growth of a child, Sapna Bhatia says, “The children of the age group of two or three may not be comfortable initially but gradually they learn to adjust. Pre-schools in this regard plays an important role where the child has no problem when enrolled in big schools. As by that time, the child has already learnt to be social and how to mingle with others.”
The school which also runs a daycare had a bunch of children sleeping or playing around. They stay there till their parents return from their respective work.
The school has different musical equipment which a child can play with. Like drum, guitar and so on. Along with it, the school also organizes few activities from time to time including the school’s annual function. The teachers make children learn school rhymes and chapters by singing it aloud to them and the children are asked to repeat after them. Seeing one, the other too starts. In that way, a child’s pronunciation also improves. Other than that, dancing, singing, thumb-printing and face painting are also conducted. Children are called on stage in the morning assembly and asked to perform any activity of their choice. In this way, a child is able to remove his public fear which also helps in boosting his confidence in the process. Moreover, no restrictions are put on those children who do not feel like studying. They are free to do anything they feel like. The teachers give ample time for a child to let himself adjust to the environment.
