Television series have been inspiring youth since ages to enter into a particular field and forensic science is no exception. In India, not many institutes offer the course of Forensic Science but the scenario is fast changing. You could start off with your Bachelors in Forensic Science followed by Masters or you could even complete your Bachelors in any other science subject and then follow it by Masters in Forensic science. For those looking for higher studies, the option of a PHD is also available.

Not only is Forensics one of the most interesting application of science and a very exciting job but it also allows you the choice to choose from a wide range of subjects. Forensic Ballistics deals with arms, ammunitions and projectile of bullets. Forensic Toxicology deals with poisons and drugs examination. Forensic Serology deals with body Fluids. Forensic Anthropology deals with time of death. Forensic Document Examiner looks for forged documents and signature. There are many more options as well.
After a degree in Forensic Science, you could work with many governmental organizations like the CBI or work with any of the private companies. But, no field is perfect and it has its own shortcomings. The job openings in the field are very less and the job is also not very well paid. That said, the scenario is fast changing and with crime rate in cities increasing the pressure on the existing laboratories is huge. The job prospects are only going to grow in the near future.
