US Teen Dies Of Cardiac Arrest After Eating Spicy Tortilla Chip As Social Media Challenge
A New York US high school student died of heart attack after participating in a social media challenge that dared people to eat only one insanely hot tortilla chip, after which an autopsy was carried out on Thursday.
The impact of “The One Chip Challenge”, a peculiar food trend, was felt by the world when it resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy from Massachussetts in September. This challenge involved an oddly-shaped chip produced by Paqui, coated with Carolina Reaper and Naga Viper peppers, and is considered one of the hottest peppers in the world . The dare has come in many forms throughout the years; the type and amount of peppers are always changing.

The report from the medical examiner’s office showed that Mr. Harris had a fatal heart failure after eating a food containing a generous amount of capsaicin, the main ingredient in chili peppers, according to the toxology brief obtained by AFP. The autopsy also revealed that the teen had a condition as an enlarged heart which could be among the factors that caused his death.
