As we enter the last month of the year, let’s admit that the year 2020 has been a stressful year. Be it the COVID-19 global pandemic, economic slowdown, Delhi riots, there were so many things we would want to erase from our memory. But even during these dark times, there were people from various fields who emerged as a ray of hope and made us believe that there is a lot of positivity to look forward to. So here are some people who made the year 2020 a lot better than it was.
1. Sonu Sood
Sonu Sood emerged as the Messiah of migrant workers who helped the helpless and poor people in reaching their homes during the lockdown. He also provided food to people living in slums, or those left stranded on roads during the lockdown. The Bollywood actor offered his hotel in Juhu as a quarantine facility for health workers.
2. Mahua Moitra
Mahua Moitra became a viral sensation after her parliament speech went viral. The Member of Parliament from TMC kept making waves with her fierce and brave speeches and being the voice of the dissent in the lower house of the parliament.

3. Kamala Harris
Very few of us knew about the vice-president-to-be, Kamala Harris before 2020. But when Joe Biden selected her as his running mate, everyone couldn’t stop knowing her. She became the first woman of color and from Asian-African origin to become be the nominee of vice-president. During the vice-presidential debate with Mike Pence, she said: “Mr. Vice Preident, I am speaking!” This resonated with all the women across the world.
4. Faye D’ Souza
The independent journalist, Faye D’Souza kept providing true facts and unfiltered debates about things that really matter. In the age of opinionated, biased, and politically-inclined media, she has been a good source of authentic and important news.
5. Azim Premji
The 75-year-old business tycoon who was the chairman of Wipro Limited had donated Rs 22 crore per day, which translates to Rs 7,904 crores without making a big fuss about it. He is by far the most generous Indian of the year.
6. Jacinda Ardern
Jacinda Ardern has revolutionized the post of Prime Minister. She has broken several stereotypes about women as she became the first world leader to give birth as a PM while dealing with the deadly coronavirus. She is also the youngest woman in New Zealand’s Prime Minister’s office.
7. Ridhima Pandey
Because of the deadly virus, there have been so much fewer talks about climate change and global warming. But the 13-year-old Ridhima Pandey has constantly been doing her part to create awareness about saving keeping the environment clean. She was also featured in the BBC’s list of 100 inspiring and influential women across the world for 2020.
8. Sourav Ganguly
This man was the reason behind the happiness of many cricket fans of India. The BCCI President took a bold decision to conduct IPL amid the coronavirus and treat Indian people with some sport. IPL 2020 was organized in UAE and was hugely successful. The former Indian captain needs to be credited for the amazing work he and his team did behind the doors to conduct the IPL.
9. Rajiv Bajaj
Rajiv Bajaj, the managing director of Bajaj Auto pulled out his advertisement from the Republic Channel. This was touted as a gutsy move, which was taken at the time when it was needed most. He should definitely be the man who could be called a trendsetter.
10. Vir Das
If there was one man who kept tickling our funny bones even in the saddest of time, it was Vir Das. Throughout the lockdown, he remained true to his form and released various comedy acts. The actor/comedian also donated money to the people who were hit by the pandemic.
