It’s adorable how much we love our pets and with coronavirus on the run, we are worried about taking dogs outside. Can dogs get COVID-19?
There are still many things that we don’t know about the nature of coronavirus. There are few cases of isolated sick animals, including two dogs in Hong Kong, a cat in Belgium and the Bronx Zoo lions and tigers. That’s why the WHO is actively investigating the human transmission of COVID-19 to animals. American Veterinary Medical Association President, Dr John Howe said that the two dogs in Hong Kong showed the presence of the COVID-19, but had no clinical symptoms and were not ill. The dogs also tested negative later. Scientists have no found no evidence so far which can confirm that a dog can transmit coronavirus to other dog or a human can transmit COVID-19 to dogs.

Should dogs wear a face mask?
Dr John Howe said that it is a total waste of money and time if you are thinking to put a mask on your pets. The virus that causes COVID-19 transmits mostly from one person to another through respiratory droplets from sneezing, coughing and talking.
Precautions you should take for dogs
Your pets not might be at risk, still American Centre for Disease Control has suggested some precautions to take if you are a pet owner.
– Don’t let pets interact (come in closer contact) with people or other animals outside the household.
– Walk dogs on a leash, staying 6 feet away from other people and animals
– Avoid dog parks or places where a large number of people and dogs gather
– Keep them indoors as much as possible
If you are a pet owner and you have caught the COVID-19 infection, you should play safe and have minimal or no contact with your dog, especially when there are still many things that we don’t know about the virus.
