How Shaheen Bagh is being used to attract voters in Delhi Elections 2020
How many times in a casual discussion, we point out that politicians do certain things for political benefits. Shaheen Bagh debate has heated up as the day of assembly elections in Delhi is coming closer. Interested Politicians from all the active political parties are trying to cash-in on the much-talked anti-CAA protest at Shaheen Bagh.
BJP leaders Parvesh Verma and UP CM Yogi Adityanath have given controversial statements against the protest. Parvesh Verma had earlier said, “They (theProtestors) will enter your houses, rape your sisters and daughters, kill them.” Yogi Adityanath in a rally on Saturday alleged that those who supported terrorists in Kashmir were staging a protest in Shaheen Bagh and raising slogans of “Azadi”. He also attacked Arvind Kejriwal alleging that Kejriwal’s party is siding with protestors at Shaheen Bagh and that a Pakistan minister and AAP were speaking on similar terms.
Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari have also called the protest politically motivated and blamed AAP and Congress for instigating it. Amit Shah has continuously referred to the protests in his speeches.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia while interacting to media, have said that they are with the protestors of Shaheen Bagh.
Why Shaheen Bagh matters a lot in Delhi Election?
You can either believe or ignore the fact that using the Shaheen Bagh, political parties want to polarize the vote with a communal angle in Delhi. Political Parties want to divide the voters into two parts. One- Majority voters and Other – Minority voters, rest you know which party wants to attract Majority Voter and which wants to attract Minority voters.
With Shaheen Bagh protest making news for more than 50 days and other localities also simmering, a good of number of assembly constituencies are experiencing ripple effects. It is not a surprise that the battle of Delhi has intensified in at least eight seats where minorities are in sizeable numbers ahead of the polling on February 8.

These seats are Seelampur, Matia Mahal, Okhla (covering Jamia), Chandni Chowk, Mustafabad, Ballimaran and Kirari.
Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are adopting distinct strategies to make political capital in these constituencies where Muslims account for about 15 per cent of the electorate.
A day after Republic Day, two provocative statements were made by BJP leaders. One leading the supporters to chant “shooting the traitors” and the other saying that people of Shaheen Bagh will enter your homes and rape and kill your daughters. Two days after these speeches, a young man fired at a protestor and student of Jamia Millia Islamia University. On Saturday, a man fired two rounds in the air at Shaheen Bagh. The man was sent for two days of judicial custody on Sunday. Unidentified goons riding on a scooter opened fire near the Jamia University on Sunday night and fled the spot. This was the third consecutive event of armed violence at the ongoing anti-CAA protests in Delhi.
