1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gets his first vaccine dose at AIIMS
On March 1, 2021, India started the second drive of the COVID vaccine. The first day of the month began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking his first COVID vaccine dose at AIIMS. After taking the vaccine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote, “Remarkable how our doctors have worked in a quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID 19. I request all who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together let us make India COVID 19 free.” According to ANI, he was administered Bharat Biotech Covaxin. Notably, the second drive of the COVID vaccine will cover people above 60.

2. Second Vaccine drive began in India. The country has so far recorded 15,510 new cases
India on Monday recorded fresh cases of COVID 19. So far 15, 510 new cases were reported from all across the country, taking the overall count to 1,11, 12, 241. Notably, 106 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Several states are witnessing an increase in the number of coronavirus cases. Maharashtra registered 8,293 new cases on Sunday. According to ANI, it was the fifth consecutive day when the state reported more than 8000 infections. Keeping the situation in mind Chief Minister Udhav Thackeray said, “We don’t want to impose another lockdown but may be compelled to do so because of the worsening situation.” On the other hand, CSIR has warned Corona Crisis isn’t over in India, 3rd the wave could be dangerous. In that case, it is important to take necessary precautions.
3. New Rules for Social Media and OTT platforms: How much do you know about it?
Another important highlight from the Weekly News Highlight was -New guidelines for social media and OTT platforms. The government on February 25th released guidelines with an aim to regulate social media, digital news media and over the top content providers. As per the government, the step has been taken with an aim to empower ordinary users of digital platforms to seek redressal for their grievances and can command accountability in case of infringement of their rights. Following Press Code of India is the most important aspect of the proposal. The government will identify the first originator of content that authorities consider Anti – National. Violating the guidelines will result in punishment under any law for the time being in force including IPC and IT provisions.
4. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar makes COVID Vaccine free in Bihar even in Private Hospitals
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is celebrating his 70th birthday today. His colleagues are showering love and blessings on him on Twitter. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too took to social media to extend his warm wishes. Well, Nitish Kumar decided to give a return gift to the people of Bihar. He announced free COVID vaccine in Bihar even in private hospitals. He said the Bihar government would facilitate it. Notably, the centre on Saturday announced that private COVID 19 vaccination can charge up to 250 per dose.
