Pakistani Woman Travels Across Borders to Marry Her Rajasthan Lover After Virtual Wedding, Celebrates Union in Traditional Ceremony During Mecca Pilgrimage
The recent story of a 25-year-old Pakistani woman who crossed international borders in order to marry her lover from Rajasthan last week became a headline. Mehvish, a resident of Islamabad, had come across Rehman, a transporter from Bikaner working in Kuwait, on a social networking website. They first became friends then lovers and had an unusual weddinging encounter.

After the dissolution of her first marriage in 2018, Mehvish met Rehman. Their online conversations culminated in an engagement on the 13th of March 2022 and a virtual wedding on the 16th of the same month. The couple later got married traditionally during Mehvish’s umrah in Mecca in 2023.
Mehvish was married for twelve years to a man from Lahore; they had two sons. After getting divorce she started new life with Rehman. On July 25, she flew to Lahore and then proceeded to the Wagah border for security search by Pakistani and Indian officials before being issued a 45 days tourist visa. Rehman’s family welcomed her with open arms in Pithisar village which is in Rajasthan.

This love adventure resembles other successful love stories of women who crossed borders for their partners like Seema Haider in India and Anju in Pakistan. Other controversy included the marriage of the party’s leader, Mulayam Singh Yadav with Pakistani woman, Iqra Jeewani which led to legal issues. Both stories express the theme of love transcending barriers.
