Tweepals pointed out that it is important to understand what kind of humour is acceptable. Sometimes crossing the line or cracking up a joke on something sensitive can trigger another person. In the year 2018, Jada Pinkett Smith announced on her social media that she is suffering from Alopecia. Notably, Alopecia is a medical condition when the immune system attacks hair follicles and one of the main reasons behind it remains severe stress. In Alopecia, an individual loses his or her hair leaving spots on the scalp.

After the physical Violence episode, Smith received the award of the Best actor. During his acceptance speech, he became emotional and apologized for his behavior by mentioning that Love will make you do crazy things. Let us read comments
“Among many comments, a woman pointed out that normalization making fun of women’s bodies for not meeting beauty standards and being insensitive towards someone’s health condition isn’t cool at all.”
Many also pointed out that making fun of someone’s physical appearance is not funny and the slap was well deserved. But we believe violence is not the answer, especially when you are at an event like the Oscars.
“Another man wrote that a real man would stand for his wife and would do the same in such a situation and he doesn’t believe that any anger management technique would work in such a case.”

Another woman wrote, “We need to understand that actors are humans too and anger is an emotion that makes you unpredictable. Body Shaming and cracking jokes on someone’s health deserves a global slap. I don’t think there was anything wrong with it.”
Talking about India, The Kapil Sharma Show which is everyone’s favourite deals with tonnes of jokes that deal with body shaming. Fat shaming of Kiku Sharda’s character to making fun of Sumona’s lips and height every single time she comes on stage is a common sight on the show. Sadly, we even laugh on it. It is important to draw a line when it comes to humour because humour doesn’t give you a right to insult or hurt someone.
Well, the historic Oscars moment has left people on the internet divided. But we believe in the name of love you cannot normalize violence and in the name of humour you can’t promote body shaming. What Will Smith did cannot be justified but it’s high time we need to rethink what kind of humour we deserve?
