Mumbai Police invoke MCOCA in Baba Siddique’s murder case, 26 arrested, Lawrence Bishnoi gang involved

Mumbai Police have charged 26 people with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). On October 12, Siddique was shot and killed by three attackers outside the Nirmal Nagar, Mumbai, office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique. The murder was attributed to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

One law intended to combat organised crime is the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999. If someone is killed as a result of organised crime, the accused may be subject to life in prison or the death penalty under MCOCA. For additional offences connected to organised crime, the statute also permits severe penalties, such as a minimum of five years in prison.

This technique was employed to evade detection. Gill was found to be the murder’s logistical coordinator. Gill’s cell phone, which might contain important evidence, is currently being sought by police.

In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, a combined squad from the Mumbai Crime Branch and the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) detained four other suspects, including gunman Shiva Kumar. Police have taken them into arrest.

Salman Vohra has also been taken into custody on suspicion of financing the murder. Investigators believe the Lawrence Bishnoi gang targeted Baba Siddique because of unsolved disputes.

Three suspects are still at large in the case, while 26 people have been apprehended by the police. It is anticipated that the use of MCOCA will bolster the case against the defendant.

Mumbai has been rocked by this murder, and authorities are working harder to see that justice is done.
