Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday morning asked the people of the country to switch off their lights at their homes and on their doorstep or in the balcony, light a candle or a Diya or flash a torchlight or mobile flashlight on Sunday, 9 PM for nine minutes.

Earlier, PM Modi asked the people to observe Janta Curfew on Sunday, March 22 and clap at 5 pm. Then many people came out of their house in groups and celebrated the evening like some sort of victory and defied the social distancing rules.

This time Prime Minister urged the people to stay in their homes and do not come out of houses.

PM Modi said that even though we are in our homes, we are not alone. 130 crores people of the country are together during this lockdown period. He said we have to dispel the darkness spread by the COVID-19 and give hope to the poor who are most hurt by the lockdown.

In the video message, he said authorities and common citizens are working together to implement the restrictions of lockdown. Other countries were inspired by the applause of the country on Janta Curfew day, March 22. It showed that we can fight the deadly virus together.

Earlier he interacted with the chief ministers of various states through a video conference and asked them to focus on COVID-19 containment measures including the testing, tracing, quarantine and isolation. Prime Minister said that it was important to work on a war footing, identify hotspots, encircle them and make sure that the infection does not spread out.
