The recent arrest of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh have caused concern in India. The monk was detained on Monday near Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, escalating tensions.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed solidarity with the central government over the issue. Since this concerns another country, the Central government must take action. We stand with them on this issue.”

Earlier, Trinamool Congress leaders, including MP Abhishek Banerjee and Saugata Roy, condemned the violence. Abhishek Banerjee described the attacks as deeply unfortunate and urged the central government to act decisively.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticised the interim government in Bangladesh, accusing it of being in the clutches of fundamentalists. He called the attacks and the arrest of the monk inhumane and unacceptable and urged the United Nations to intervene. Singh also accused Opposition leaders in India of double standards on communal violence.

The arrest of the monk and the refusal to grant him bail deeply alarmed India’s Ministry of External Affairs. It demanded that Bangladesh protect minority communities. Reiterating the party’s backing for the government’s stance, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra emphasised the significance of safeguarding.

Opposition leaders, however, criticized the Modi government. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence, alleging that India’s influence in the region is declining. He said, “Why is the Prime Minister silent while Hindus in Bangladesh face persecution?”

The situation has sparked calls for immediate action from the Indian government and international organizations to address the violence and protect in Bangladesh.
