TRIGGER WARNING! Hathras Gang Rape Case: Here is Everything you need to know
One more added to the tally of barbaric crimes on woman: This time it is a 19-year-old Dalit Woman
4 upper-caste men had raped a 19-year-old Dalit woman from Uttar Pradesh’s village Hathras, on September 14, giving her serious injuries. The woman was first taken to Jawaharlal Nehru College and Hospital in Aligarh, later she was shifted to Safdarjung after her condition became adverse. The woman died on 29th September while fighting critical condition, which as per reports is that she was paralysed and on ventilator support.
As per the police reports, she was cutting grass to collect fodder when the rapists dragged her by her dupatta and gang-raped her.
As per a report by BBC Hind, the victim’s brother has said that no arrest was made in the first 10 days after the incident, his sister was left to die yet she fought for her life for 14 days.
On Wednesday, 2:30 AM, the woman was cremated by the police and allegedly, her family and relatives were locked up in their homes. A disturbing video of this incident has been rolling on social media, where the family has been arguing with the cops as the cops insisted on taking the daughter directly for the cremation. The Hindustan Times reported that the villagers have been claiming that they wanted to take the body of the woman to her house but the authorities pressed for the cremation at the earliest, the passage of the ambulance was reportedly blocked and finally, the cremation took place in the village, in the absence of the family members.

ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE – Right behind me is the body of #HathrasCase victim burning. Police barricaded the family inside their home and burnt the body without letting anybody know. When we questioned the police, this is what they did. pic.twitter.com/0VgfQGjjfb

Since Tuesday, there have been protests by Congress, Bhim Activists and civilians outside Safdarjung Hospital and security has been increased near the AIMS and Safdarjung Hospital area. The four men accused are arrested and will be charged for murder.
The NCW’s (National Commission for Women) chairperson has said, “We will be there to help her family. To control such incidents we need to change the mindset of society.” A compensation of 10 lakhs has been announced by the Hathras DM to the victim’s family.
The situation is drawing clear parallels with 2012’s Delhi Gang Rape Case, where 4 men brutally raped a young girl, called Nirbhaya and left her to die. Where there was a widespread protest for days in the country yet it took 8 years to give complete justice to Nirbhaya. Post that, several such cases also came in the notice. The Kathua Rape Case where three men brutally raped an 8-year-old girl, Asifa Bano in Kashmir and the case took a communal colour. November – December last that year, the gang-rape and murder 26-year-old woman, a veterinary doctor, Priyanka Reddy in Shamshabad, Hyderabad sparked global outrage.
On social media, there is an outrage on why the broadcast media is not reporting the incident. People have been posting about the gloominess of broadcast media while many are questioning the government who had promised for the safety of women.
Why Is Medias Not Showing About The Rapes That Are Happening In Uttar Pradesh?
If The Media Is Quiet, Who Cares About Justice?
Some People Asks Justice For Kangana But At The Same Time Same People Doesn't Ask Justice For Manisha.#Hathras #ShameOnYogi#JusticeForManishaValmiki pic.twitter.com/iUBqktk16E

It’s time. @myogiadityanath should RESIGN. Under him utter breakdown of law & order in UP. His policies have created caste strife, fake encounters, gang wars & there is a RAPE EPIDEMIC in Uttar Pradesh. #Hathras case is only one example. #YogiMustResign #PresidentRuleInUP

Where every year, the number of reported rape is increasing, we deliberately want to question, who should be made accountable for women’s safety? We hope and pray for justice for Manisha Valmiki and all other women who have been through any harassment.
