Prevention
After the Covid-19 variant like Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omicron, a new disease called Florona virus has now emerged in Israel. The first case of Florona was detected in Israel this week.
What is Florona virus?
It is not a new variant of covid-19. So, what exactly is Florona?
It is a double infection of covid-19 and influenza. It happens when the human body gets infected by flu and covid-19 at the same time. It also suggests a lapse of immunity in the human body.
What symptoms of Florona virus?
According to the health experts, it is possible to develop a combination of symptoms of covid-19 and influenza virus.
- Fever
- Body ache
- Cough
- Sneezing
- Sore throat
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Rashes (in children)
The symptoms can develop between three to four days for flu; however, it will take two to fourteen days for a Covid-19 virus to show its symptoms. As per Dr. P Venkat, Internal Medicine, Artemis Hospital the right result will come out only when the sample is sent for testing.
“A PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test is required for flu where we test for the Ribonucleic acid which is essential for any form of life or RNA of the virus. For both the viruses, separate PCR tests are done. The genotypes of both viruses are different. It can be diagnosed only by lab tests,” commented Dr. Venkat.
The first case was detected in Israel. According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, it was detected in a pregnant woman at the Rabin Medical Center who was admitted to the hospital for delivery. The woman was unvaccinated against coronavirus.
Showing a steadying rise in covid-19 cases, the country’s health ministry reported 5000 new covid cases. The country has also started administering the fourth round of vaccines and boosters for immunosuppressed people. So long as four months have passed since their third shot, one of the reports of Time of Israel says that health ministry director-general Prof. Nachman Ash also approved vaccines for elderly people at geriatric facilities. The ministry said, “This is done due to concerns of outbreaks at such facilities and the risk to the health and lives of residents.” The rollout of the fourth door began at Israel’s Sheba Medical Center and was administered to heart and lung transplant patients.
In 2020, the country had run a successful vaccination program and led the world in becoming the first nation to go mask-free. The world leader in vaccinations however had to reimpose the mask in June 2021 in indoor public places. Amid an uptick, in cases, that previous was due to the delta variant and now amid an omicron transferred surge Israel is working against the time to inoculate the most vulnerable in its population.
Conclusion
As per WHO (World Health Organization), “The most effective way to prevent hospitalization and severe covid-19 and influenza is vaccination with both vaccines.”
However, Doctors are still researching ‘Florona virus’ to extract further details. The data from the Centre for Disease Control & the Israeli Ministry of Health had warned of the spread of this infection. Experts have said that the disease is still under study and the possibility of infection with it varies according to each person’s immunity. The people with lower immunity are at higher risk.
