Ahead of UP elections, PM Modi decides to repeal controversial farm laws
In a televised ‘address to the nation’ on Friday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the three controversial agriculture laws passed in September 2020 have been repealed by the central government. Even before the passage of these laws, farmers across the country were opposing it. He believes that the laws will benefit the big corporations and the farmers will suffer. The PM said that the process of withdrawing the law will be completed in the winter session of Parliament. Modi appealed to the farmers to end the agitation.

Thousands of farmers have been agitating against these laws on the borders of Delhi since last year. Most of the opposition parties called it the right decision taken late. BJP leaders are now appealing to the agitating farmers to return home at the earliest.

Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait has clarified that the agitation will not be withdrawn immediately, we will wait for the day when agricultural laws will be repealed in Parliament. Along with the MSP, the government should also discuss other issues of the farmers.

‘Decision taken after seeing the fear of defeat’
Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal called it a ‘big victory for the farmers’. Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh thanked PM Modi. He said in a tweet that he is thankful to Modi for fulfilling the demand of every Punjabi. Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik said that ‘a message has been sent that any decision can be changed if the country is united’.
Referring to the results of the recent elections, he said that ‘PM Modi has taken this decision because of the defeat’. AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also said that the laws were withdrawn fearing defeat in the elections. RJD leader Manoj Jha said that there is a message hidden in this for the government that you will get anything passed by the Parliament and the country will accept it, it does not happen.

However, experts have said that seeing upcoming UP and Punjab elections, the Modi government has decided to repeal the farm laws. “Around 750 farmers were killed in the agricultural movement.
