Trump supports H-1B visas, emphasizing skilled workers’ importance across industries, from tech to hospitality

US President Donald Trump has voiced his support for the H-1B visa program, emphasizing the need for very competent people to contribute to the United States at all levels. Speaking during a joint press conference at the White House alongside Oracle CTO Larry Ellison, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Trump highlighted the importance of maintaining high-quality standards in immigration.

Trump said, “I appreciate all sides of the debate, but I also like highly qualified individuals entering our nation, even if that means training and assisting those who might not be as qualified. I don’t want [the program] to end, and I’m not just referring to engineers; I’m referring to individuals at all levels.

The US President praised the H-1B visa program, sharing his own familiarity with it, and stated its significance for industries beyond technology. “We want competent people coming into our country. I know the H-1B program very well. It’s not just about engineers—Maitre d’s, wine experts, even high-quality waiters—we need the best people,” he explained.

Trump’s comments align with sentiments shared by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has also championed the H-1B program as a vital tool for attracting top talent. Musk recently credited the program for helping recruit skilled professionals to companies like SpaceX and Tesla. He noted that the H-1B visa system has played a crucial role in making America a global leader in innovation.

Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton added his perspective, agreeing that Trump’s position on the H-1B program is widely popular. Bolton underscored the challenges of both legal and illegal immigration systems, stating,”The legal immigration system is at a standstill.” In my opinion, more immigrants should be welcomed as a source of strength for the US.

Trump’s remarks come amidst ongoing discussions about immigration reforms, with a focus on balancing border security and the need for skilled professionals in various industries.
