From the UK to Russia, Countries Helping India in Coping with COVID Crisis

India is gasping for every breath, people are dying and all that has been lingering around is helplessness and uncertainty. It is scary to see how cases are increasing day by day, and even scary to find out how people are not able to find adequate resources for their treatment. Oxygen has never been seen as such a luxury as it has come to be known in the last month. Besides, the other resources including oxygen beds, ventilators, PPE kits, test kits, medicines, and vaccines, etc. And amid this deteriorating situation, here are countries that are helping India in coping with the COVID crisis.

Here is a list of countries helping India in coping with the COVID Crisis

1. The US

The US has announced sending rapid diagnostic test kits, personal protective equipment (PPE), and ventilators. The US has a strick ban on raw materials used to make the raw material for the Covishield vaccine to which the government has now said that it will look after “identified sources of specific raw material urgently required for Indian manufacture of the Covishield vaccine that will immediately be made available for India.” In fact, 318 oxygen concentrators have already reached India as the first batch.

2. The UK

The first shipment from the UK was made on Sunday and arrived in India on Tuesday. This was a supply of 495 Oxygen concentrators, 120 non-invasive ventilators, and 20 manual ventilators. Boris Johnson has said “We stand side by side with India as a friend and partner during what is a deeply concerning time in the fight against Covid-19”. There are more shipments expected later this week.

3. Australia

On Tuesday, Australia offered an initial help of 500 ventilators as an initial support package. Scott Morrison, Australian Prime Minister in a  conference the “I stress this is an initial package, there will be more to follow, of support and to deliver this as soon as possible.
The initial support package also includes  500,000 P2 and N95 masks, one million surgical masks, 100,000 goggles, 100,000 surgical gowns, 100,000 pairs of gloves, and 20,000 face shields.

4. Singapore

On Sunday, Singapore state investment firm Temasek announced the medical support of equipment and oxygen-related supplies. Temasek said in a Facebook post that four cryogenic oxygen cylinders donated by India’s Tata Group arrived in the Indian state of West Bengal on Saturday evening.

5. Saudi Arabia

India’s one of the Asian allies have shipped 80 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen. This has been in cooperation with the Adani group and British multinational company Linde.

6. UAE

UAE is known to sending huge oxygen concentrators with Saudi Arabia sending oxygen generators. A heartwarming gesture was seen from UAE’s side when prominent buildings and landmarks, including the Burj Khalifa were lit up in Indian tricolor to mark the solidarity with India and show support to India for coping with the COVID crisis.

7. Germany

Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor said that Germany will prepare a ‘mission of support’ for India to help them deal with the COVID crisis. The details on this were not made available till on Monday, Foreign Minister Heiko Mass said that the country will be sending Oxygen and medical aid.

8. Russia

Russia also said that it will submit 3,00,000-4,00,000 units of Remdesivir injection, an essential medication that is currently in short supply in India. However, due to patent problems with US-based drugmaker Gilead Sciences, India does not receive it until the end of the year.

So, these are the countries who have been known to showing up support to the country. Although, their are other countries in talks of Helping India in Coping the COVID Crisis. We hope that we cope up with the crisis soon and all the help pouring is deeply appreciated.
