Will there be another lockdown in Delhi?
Despite witnessing an increase in the number of coronavirus cases, Delhi’s Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Monday that currently there are no plans of reimposing the lockdown. He believes that the third wave has passed its peak, and social distancing and usage of masks should be the way to contain COVID-19 cases.
The capital has been witnessing an increase in the Covid-19 cases since October 20. Delhi government officials have attributed the surge to the festival season and laxity in adhering to norms like wearing masks, ensuring social distancing.
A review meeting was held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in presence of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Delhi LG Anil Baijal, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and other senior officers. It was decided that the Centre will add more ICU (Intensive Care Unit) beds, double the RT-PCR tests, deploy health workers from paramilitary forces and up a dedicated team to study the availability of bed in private hospitals.
Overall, there is a decrease in the number of coronavirus cases on the country level. India reported 30,548 new cases in the last 24 hours ending on Monday morning. This is the lowest spike for the country in a single day since July 14. A total of 88.45 lakh people have been found positive with the deadly virus. The death toll stands at 1,30,070, which includes fresh 435 deaths on Monday. 4.65 lakh cases in the country are active and 82.49 lakh people have recovered from the disease. Low testing could be one of the reasons behind less number of cases. A total of just 8 lakh tests were conducted on Saturday and less than 10 lakh people are being tested since Friday.
