Revolutionizing Neurosurgery: Chennai Doctors Achieve Global Milestone with World’s First Keyhole Surgery for Insular Brain Tumor via Eyebrow Approach
In a path breaking surgery, doctors in Chennai have removed an insular brain tumor through a keyhole surgery for a tumour above the eyebrow. The insula, embedded in the depths of the cerebral cortex, has its own problems regarding the possibility of its surgical removal since it is close to Broca’s speech area and motor region, as well as has a dense capillary network.

The 44-year-old patient who came to the doctor after a bike accident supposed to be examined for other health issues and was found to have an incidental tumor located in the right insular lobe, which is the dominant side of the patient. Indeed, having the UCLA surgeons employing keyhole surgeries to remove skull base lesions was not only an alternative to the traditional open craniotomies, but also offered an example of clinical prowess, procedure expediency and safety.

The feeling was expressed the same way by the senior consultant neurosurgery Hrishikesh Sarkar who stressed the importance of this achievement and its potential to make patients’ lives safer and better. Sensibly, the patient was discharged within 72 hours of the surgery, and at the moment, the patient is recovering well.

This newly introduced method of treatment not only cured the patient but also brought hope and relief to that patient. Not only it quickened her transition to the new normal but also opened a new chapter in managing aggressive and invasive intracranial neoplasms by providing safer and more efficient tools for intervention.
