Rise In Covid Cases Invoke Fear In People

A daily rise in covid cases indicates precaution is a must

The past 24 hours have seen a rise in active Covid cases. A few deaths have also been reported in the country.

What is the latest data saying?

According to official data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 6350 active cases in India. The active cases in India stand at 0.01%.

435 cases have risen since yesterday, three deaths, one in Karnataka and two in Rajasthan, have also been reported. Saturday had seen an addition of 1000+ cases, a high daily average, as this was last seen in November 2022.

The highest number of cases have been reported from Maharashtra and Gujarat.

However, the good news is that the recovery rate is high at 98.8%. The daily positivity rate is 2.08%. The positivity rate in COVID refers to the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests out of the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted in a given population or area. This metric is used to track the spread of the virus and identify areas with higher infection rates.

A high positivity rate indicates that a significant proportion of people tested in a given area are infected with COVID-19, suggesting that the virus is spreading rapidly in that region. In contrast, a low positivity rate suggests that the virus is under control and that measures such as testing, tracing, and isolation are effective in reducing transmission.

Revised Guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

According to a tweet by Dr. Lokesh Sharma, a Scientist and Media coordinator of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)–

“Guideline does not advice use of Lopinavir-ritonavir, HCQ, Ivermectin, Convalescent plasma, Molnupiravir, Favipiravir, Azithromycin, Doxycycline”

In light of the recent increase in cases, experts have said that it is important that we continue taking the basic precaution of wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining social distance. Similar to rising Covid cases, there are also rising case distancing caused by H3N2 influenza. The flu symptoms are also similar to Covid and impact the respiratory tract.

In a press conference, Michael Ryan, WHO emergencies director said, “I think we’re coming to that point where we can look at Covid-19 in the same way we look at seasonal influenza.”
