Genetically modified (GM) foods
India has enacted the prohibition on cultivating and importing the genetically modified (GM) plants and foods saying that there might be the negative environmental effects such as involvement of the biodiversity loss, the alteration of the ecosystems and possible health risks However, GM crops such Bt cotton far into the market, while the process of approving GM food crops is still being very strict due to the long term negative health and environmental effects contaminating others.
Artificial ripening agents for fruits
Natural ripening of fruits chemicals like calcium carbide and ethylene gas used for stunting freshness and development of fruit ripening are completely banned in India with health issues and other dangers like explosion. It is, however, calcium carbide, the article contents, which is the one that releases acetylene gas, a definite human carcinogen, in the process of ripening it thus affecting consumers health.

Sassafras oil
In 2003, sasafras oil was prohibited from sale by FSSAI due to its excessive erucic acid levels which were a cause of health complications like HDL and heart diseases. Erucic acid content of saasafaras oil exceeded the required limits of permissible levels, which led to the ban and protecting the consumers from possible impacts on heart health.

Chinese milk products
Inspection and standards for Indian food safety by the FSSAI were strictened after incidents of food safety scandals and product contamination issues that shook the China food and infant formula sector since 2008. In certain products of Chinese dairy industry, the notorious contaminants, that is melamine, a hazardous substance added to increase protein levels, were detected, thereby putting consumer health at risk.
Confectionary with trans fats
Another banned food item in India is the biscuits and pastries that contain trans fats as there strong relation to the increase in health risks. Trans fats increase the bad cholesterol and reduce the good cholesterol in the blood, this explains the development of blockages that may make one suffer from cardiovascular disease and other health complication.
