Sleep has a huge impact on our overall health and it is extremely important that we get a good night’s sleep before we start our day! Here are a few things you should know about how sleep impacts health- 

  • Your sleep quality is more important than sleep quantity 

It doesn’t matter if you sleep for 5 hours or 10 hours, it is more important how well you sleep. Good quality sleep is the best medicine for any sickness, a tiring day or overall health improvement. 

  • Sleep impacts our stress level 

Poor sleep will increase stress and increased stress will result in poor sleep. Hence, to break this circle, it is important that we ensure that there are few stressors in life and also that we always get good sleep to keep stress levels minimal. 

  • Productivity and performance

Sleep is also related to our productivity and performance. A good night’s sleep will often leave you feeling energized, which means that our performance and productivity will be much better. However, poor sleep will make you cranky, irritated and lead to poor performance at work or any other task.

Sleep has also seen to have a really important connection with our mental health. Depression, anxiety or any other mental health problem has often been combined with poor night’s sleep. When the body’s circadian rhythm is disturbed, it can lead to any mental health issue. Hence, it’s also important that we always get a good night’s sleep if we want to keep our mental health fit.

Insomnia and Cognitive Performance 

Insomnia is a sleep disorder where a person faces difficulty in falling asleep or staying asleep. This has a profound impact on our cognitive performances such as attention rates, reaction times, working memory, and problem solving abilities. Research has shown that those with insomnia have poorer cognitive performances than those without insomnia and this shows the importance of sleep in our lives.
