Covid Update: Delhi CM Kejriwal Tests Positive, Mini Lockdown imposed in Delhi
Covid Update: As Covid-19 continues to surge the nation, India witnessed more than 37000 new cases in the first week of the new year. Amongst these Omicron cases rose to 1892 across 23 states. The active caseload in India has risen to 1,71,830. As per the Union Health Ministry, 766 people have data furnished. The drive to vaccinate teens began on 3 December 2022, with more than 40 lakh adolescents aged 15-18 years receiving their first doses.
In the national capital Delhi, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal confirmed that he too, unfortunately, tested positive with Coronavirus. His tweet reads, “I have tested positive for Covid. Mild symptoms. Have isolated me at home. Those who came in touch with me in the last few days, kindly isolate yourself and get yourself tested.”

Amid the information that Kejriwal has put out is that he is experiencing mild symptoms. Therefore, there is no question of hospitalization. Delhi CM was attending some government meets, political rallies in the state of Uttarakhand & Punjab and also addressed a couple of meetings in Goa from the last few weeks.
Whereas cities across the nation have witnessed a steady rise in COVID-19 cases. Here is the Covid update as several Indian states and cities reel under Covid-19.
Delhi: Delhi reported 4099 new infections, shooting up from 500 cases in just six days. However, one more death was reported due to corona while 1509 people have recovered. Meanwhile, Satyendar Jain, Delhi Health Minister said that more than 81% of the total samples are sequenced in the past two days, found to have the omicron variant. The Delhi government also asked all the schools to upload the data of vaccinated students on the google tracker without a failure.

Mumbai: Mumbai has become the covid capital of India as the fresh cases are there over 8000 making it the highest in India in a city. Even though only 2 deaths were reported due to contagious virus, a big jump is noticed in the Mumbai hospitalization. The good news that came from the city is asymptomatic.

Punjab: amid a rise in corona cases, Punjab on 4 December 2022, imposed a night curfew in the state from 10 pm to 5 am. The restrictions will remain imposed till January 15, 2022. All cinemas, halls, bars, theatres, restaurants, malls, spas, zoos, museums, etc., shall be allowed to operate at 50 per cent of their capacity subject to all staff present being fully vaccinated. Sports complexes, swimming pools, stadiums, gyms shall remain closed, and no visitors or spectators will be allowed.
Educational institutions, like colleges, schools, universities, coaching institutions, shall remain closed. However, institutions are expected to maintain the academic schedule through online teaching.
Kerala: Amid a spike in Omicron cases, Kerala health minister, Veena Geoge has confirmed that there is no community spread of omicron. Out of the 152 omicron cases, 9 of the 45 cases came from the high-risk countries, while 32 remained from the low-risk countries. Through their contacts, 4 people became infected with the new variant. Thiruvananthapuram has nine, Ernakulam has 16 cases of Omicron, Thrissur has six, Pathanamthitta has five, Kozhikode and Alappuzha each have three, Wayanad has one and Malappuram has two. The Minister urged residents to be extra cautious as the number of Omicron cases is on the rise.

West Bengal: Cases are spiking in West Bengal also as over 6000 fresh cases reported from the past 2 days. Over 3000 cases alone were reported in Kolkata. The state’s positivity rate has jumped up to 15%. The Bengal government introduced a slew of strict lockdown-like measures. Movement of people, vehicles, public gatherings of any kind is prohibited between 10:30 pm to 5 am. School, colleges, and universities will remain closed.
In this list of Covid Update, several states like Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana is also dealing with a hike in covid cases. Therefore, it is advisable to follow corona guidelines obediently, till the pandemic gets lightened.
