Chandipura virus outbreak in Gujarat: Contamination and number of deaths due to Chandipura virus has shot up in Gujarat and it has emerged into an issue of concern. Apparently, suspected deaths have risen to 15 as the flu spreads to more than ten districts in Gujarat.

Hospitals and clinics on Wednesday received information from the State Health Department that about 29 probable cases exist in the State.
The report in The Hindu also stated that doctors along with the government feel that the instances of Chandipura virus are going to occur more in the days to come and this virus has the potential to spread in other districts of the state.
Among these 29 suspected cases, 26 patients have been reported from Gujarat, two from Rajasthan, and one case reported from Madhya Pradesh. Among the 15 deaths, 13 have originated from the State while one each has been reported from the neighbouring States Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, according to The Hindu.
These diseases are reported from Sabarkantha, Aravali, Mehsana, Rajkot, Ahmedabad city, Morbi, Panchmahal, and others infected by the Chandipura virus.
The same Rushikesh Patel from Gujarat, accused about several presumed CHPV cases stemming from sandflies, many of which are believed to originate from a new drug known as X. ‘’The symptoms are mainly, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, convulsions, loss of consciousness and it affects children up to the age of 14 years if any of these are observed, one should report to the health centre. ’’ he wrote on Wednesday.
What is Chandipura virus
Chandipura virus is related to encephalitic disease. The virus provokes fever, which manifests symptoms like flu and acute encephalitis that is inflammation of the brain. The pathogen is a Vesiculovirus genus of the family Rhabdoviridae. It is carried by agents such as mosquitoes, ticks and sandflies.
The 2003 – 2004 outbreaks in and around central India have reported C/F ratios of 56-75% as per Andhra-Pradesh and Gujrat, and mainly encephalitic symptoms, according to the newspaper the Hindu.

What are the signs of chandipura virus?
Chandipura virus causes symptoms like:

vomiting - acute encephalitis, think inflammation of the brain
What leads to a Chandipura virus infection?
The district health officials have implemented preventive steps, including telling locals to seal off wall gaps and make sure the state is clean and hygienic before the monsoon arrives. The CHPV virus is particularly prevalent in rural regions, according to Panchmahal CDHO Dr. M R Chaudhari, because its typical breeding grounds include the spaces between kutcha house bricks or dark holes in trees. Phlebotomine sandflies are the main vector of transmission, while ticks and mosquitoes can also carry the virus.
