"Russia joins the race with Indian spacecraft to launch the Moon Lander Mission in nearly a half-century." Geopolitical challenges relaunch Moscow's lunar program amid shifting foreign partnerships

“Russia is all set to launch its first moon lander since 1976 to investigate the moon’s South Pole Amid the global quest for Water and habitat.”

On August 11, Russia will launch its first lunar landing spacecraft in 47 years. The Luna-25 mission, which will launch from the Vostochny cosmodrome, 3,450 miles (5,550 km) east of Moscow. It is a  part of a worldwide race to investigate the moon’s south pole, which is thought to contain potential amount of water that could support future human habitation.

The launch comes just four weeks after India’s Chandrayaan-3 lunar lander was sent into space, with a landing at the lunar south pole expected on August 23.Despite the close timing, the Russian space agency Roscosmos has stated that there will be no interference between the two missions because they have different landing zones planned. The rough terrain makes landing difficult, but experts believe the south pole holds enormous amounts of ice that might be utilized to extract fuel and oxygen, as well as for drinking water.
