In the Israel-Hamas War, UN agencies and humanitarian groups urgently call for a ceasefire in Gaza due to civilian casualties and critical shortages.
Israel-Hamas War: UN Agencies and Humanitarians Unite for Urgent Ceasefire Plea
The leaders of 11 United Nations agencies and seven humanitarian organizations within the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) have jointly called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas War. They expressed deep concern over the loss of life, with around 1,400 people killed in Israel and over 200 individuals abducted by Hamas militants on October 7. These leaders find these events to be truly distressing.
In their statement, they highlighted the tragic killings of more civilians in Gaza and the severe restrictions that have left 2.2 million Palestinians without access to essential resources like food, water, medicine, electricity, and fuel. The IASC condemns the besiegement and attacks on this entire population, including bombings in their homes, shelters, hospitals, and places of worship, deeming it unacceptable.

Furthermore, the signatories of this plea called for the immediate and unconditional release of all civilians held hostage by Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups. Notable UN agencies among these signatories include the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), among others.
