Iran is prone to earthquakes, but after an earthquake on October 5, speculation about possible nuclear tests by Iran has increased. People began to connect the location and timing of the seismic activity to Iran’s nuclear program and wonder if the Islamic nation was on the verge of developing its own nuclear bomb. But a nation is not necessarily weeks away from obtaining a working nuclear bomb just because it is testing its nuclear capabilities.

At 10:45 a.m., an earthquake with a Richter scale value of 4.4 was detected in Aradan County, Semnan Province, according to Mehr News Agency. It cited the University of Tehran’s Institute of Geophysics to state that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 12 kilometers. Since then, there have been rumors circulating that Iran’s nuclear test caused the earthquake.
Several handles on X have also uploaded graphs demonstrating how the seismic activity correlates to a temblor linked to nuclear tests, despite the lack of an official confirmation or rejection. None of these have been verified by an expert. These theories have been sparked by the natural phenomenon of the earthquake’s timing.
