Nobel laureate Jimmy Carter, former U.S. President and relentless humanitarian, has died at age 100 in Plains, Georgia. He had been in hospice care since early 2023 and was surrounded by his family at the time of his death Sunday. His passing marks an end to an extraordinary life service for humanity, peace, and what may be called betterment of humanity.

Carter was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 until 1981. During his tenure, he had been trying to re-gain people’s trust into their government and had been pushing forward human rights. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. His influence went further beyond his presidency as he became a strong advocate of democracy, fought diseases worldwide, and promoted peace long after he left the Oval Office. His integrity and compassion made him a household name worldwide.

World Leaders Honor Carter’s Legacy
US President Joe Biden paid an emotional tribute to the late former US President Jimmy Carter, mourning the loss of a “remarkable leader” and a dear friend. He spoke of his decades-long friendship with Carter, which he said touched lives across the world through humanitarian works. “Jimmy Carter lived a life measured not by words, but by his deeds,” Biden said, underlining the former president’s role in advancing civil rights, fair elections, and disease eradication worldwide.

Former President Donald Trump also extended his condolences saying that Carter “was all about making America a good place to live.” That was despite political differences with Carter. During his presidency, as well after leaving office, Trump reflected, Carter was “a truly good man” that would be greatly missed.

Another former U.S. President, Bill Clinton said that Carter’s lifelong service for others guided by his faith and compassion is to be remembered. “Hillary and I mourn the passing of President Jimmy Carter and give thanks for his long, good life,” Clinton said.

Global Leaders Reflect
International leaders joined the chorus of grief and admiration. The French President, Emmanuel Macron described Carter as a steady advocate for vulnerable communities and as a tireless champion of peace.
“France sends its heartfelt thoughts to his family and to the American people,” Macron said.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer focused on Carter’s decades of “selfless public service.” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recalled the legacy of compassion and kindness that Carter leaves behind. Trudeau also recalled personal advice that Carter had given him and said he was a source of inspiration.

Jimmy Carter passed away, leaving behind selfless service and humanitarianism as a legacy to inspire leaders and citizens in reminding the world of compassion and integrity in public life.
