Donald Trump shares Kamala Harris’s Indian-heritage photo amid identity row

On his Truth Social account, former US President Donald Trump shared a picture of Vice President Kamala Harris and her family. This follows Trump’s recent claims that Harris had “turned Black” and that a few years ago, he was unaware of her dual racial identification. “The same old show of divisiveness and disrespect” was how Harris had described it. During an event in Chicago for Black journalists, Trump asked Harris if she is Indian or Black.

Strong criticism was leveled at Donald Trump’s remarks on the Democratic nominee for president, even from the White House, which deemed them to be “repulsive and insulting”. “Kamala, I appreciate you sending me that lovely old photo! Donald Trump wrote, “Your warmth, friendship, and love of your Indian heritage are very much appreciated,” as the Truth Social post’s caption.

The focus of Kamala Harris’s ethnic identification in the current US presidential campaign and in the Vice-President’s support has shifted. Trump remarked, “She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” at a panel discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention in Chicago, Illinois. She occurred to turn black a few years ago, and now she wants to be known as black, even though I did not know that. Thus, I am not sure if she is Black or Indian. Trump was quoted by CNN as saying.

Harris’s Response To Trump

Harris, who is of Indian and Jamaican descent, criticized Trump’s answer, calling it “the same old show of divisiveness and disrespect”. “I just want to emphasize that the people of America deserve better. When faced with the facts, the American people deserve a leader that tells it like it is and does not react with animosity and rage. We ought to be led by someone who recognizes that our differences do not separate us. In a White House statement, Harris stated, “They are a vital source of our strength.”
