Lula emphasized the seriousness of the situation during a news conference in Brasilia, stating that the federal government is taking active steps to assist state governments in addressing organized crime. The deployment will involve 3,600 members of the army, navy, and air force to increase patrols and enhance security at international airports in Rio and Sao Paulo, as well as two major maritime ports in Rio and Santos, the busiest port in Latin America, which is a significant export point for cocaine.
