Afghanistan earthquake : Death toll crosses 2000 and more than 9000 injured
A strong earthquake in Afghanistan has resulted in more than 2000 deaths and 9000 injuries. With ongoing search and rescue operations, concerns of trapped victims, and humanitarian response efforts is at full swing.

On Saturday, a powerful earthquake of magnitude-6.3 followed by strong aftershocks killed more than 2000 people and injured more than 9000 in Western Afghanistan.
According to the report of Afghanistan’s National Disaster Authority, the on Sunday the death toll from the Afghanistan earthquake has risen to 2060. It is one of the deadliest earthquakes to strike the country in two decades.Late on Saturday, the United Nations provided a preliminary death toll of 320, but later clarified that the number was still being verified. In accordance with the same report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, local officials believe that 100 people have died and 500 have been injured.

465 total home lost and 135 reported home damages were included in the update
According to concerns that some individuals may be trapped beneath collapsed structures, partners and local authorities “expect the number of casualties to rise as search and rescue efforts continue,” the UN stated.
According to Dr. Danish, a representative of the Herat health department, more than 200 bodies had been taken to different hospitals, and the most of them were women and children. Bodies had been “taken to several places, including military bases and hospitals”, Danish added.
According to the World Health Organization in Afghanistan, 12 ambulances were sent to Zenda Jan to take injured people to medical facilities.

Teams from the U.N. agency posted on X,(Twitter), that “as deaths & casualties from the earthquake continue to be reported, teams are in hospitals assisting treatment of wounded & assessing additional needs.” Ambulances sponsored by the WHO are transferring the affected, the most of who are women and children.
