Making a mark in the film industry is one challenge, and for new faces, it becomes even tougher. However, while several start with lesser roles, others take the plunge headfirst into the limelight with audacious choices that would define their careers. Reena Roy is one of them; for this actress made a striking entry into Bollywood by doing semi-nude scenes in her debut.

Reena Roy made her debut with the movie Zaroorat in 1992, when she was just 15 years old. Zaroorat was a film with big stars; Vijay Arora, Danny Denzongpa, and Asit Sen to name a few, but controversy-driven scenes performed by Reena overshadowed everyone else. A very memorable moment is the dramatic scene when Asit, aged 40 back then, threatened her character. That bold choice would define her early career, as she was mostly relegated to objectifying roles.

Despite such rigorous initiation tests, Reena soon turned out to be the leading star of the 1970s, captivating the audience not just by her looks and acting skills but also by her constant presence in many super hits alongside some of the biggest stars like Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha, with whom she was paired in very popular movies that spawned off-camera rumors about an off-screen romance even though Shatrughan remained committed to his wife Poonam Sinha.

Reena’s career went through the roof when some filmmakers discovered her talent and she even found herself in films like Asha, Arpan, Nagin, Nasseb, and Jaani Dushman. She then married Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan and went to Pakistan in 1983 and never acted again. After her divorce in early 1990, she moved to India and later took up the lead role in the film Refugee, co-starring Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, ending thus her long term exile from Bollywood.
