Soon after arriving Mumbai, he joined Ekjute theatre company. After a brief stint with the theatre groups, Sushant ended up being a part of Balaji casting team. He was later offered the role of Preet Juneja in a then-popular show Kis Desh Mai hai Mera Dil. His power-packed performance left Ekta Kapoor awestruck and she decided to make a show with him as a lead artist in it – Pavitra Rishta, one of the longest-running shows in the history of Indian television. His contagious smile & impactful performance made him a household name and he won many awards for his performance.

When Pavitra Rishta was at the peak of its success, he decided to quit the show. It was the second big risk in his life, but he didn’t think twice. He decided to try his luck in Bollywood. Sushant believed in himself. He took 3 years to say yes to his debut film. It was – Kai Po Che, the film became a commercial hit and Sushant was lauded by critics.
Later, he went on to do films like Shudh Desi Romance, and PK for which he didn’t take a penny. Working with Rajkummar Hirani was all he wanted. Sushant always wanted to be a part of good films. For him, character and story were more important than his screen time.

Nobody could have pulled off Dhoni’s character better than him. Not for a second, we thought it was Sushant Singh Rajput, not Dhoni on the screen. We loved every bit of the film. The kind of hard work he had put in the character was visible onscreen. All his hard work got paid off, and the film went on to become a blockbuster and made Sushant Singh Rajput a star.
According to reports, the sequel of Dhoni was on cards, but unfortunately, it will never happen now. Today, Sushant isn’t with us but his memories will be cherished forever. He is a man worth remembering. Sushant lived on his own terms and that made him a star in every way. Let us admit, he has given hope to every commoner – “Sapne Dekho Aur Unhe Pura Karo”. Sushant has definitely left a void behind which cannot be filled, but he will always be one of the phenomenal actors Bollywood ever had.
