Shweta Tripathi Sharma OTT Journey: Characters and Stories That Resonate
Shweta Tripathi Sharma has been keeping herself busy with a series of OTT projects, including “Escaype Live,” “Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein,” and her latest one, “Kaalkoot.” While it might seem like a conscious choice to focus on digital platforms, Shweta insists it’s not intentional. She explains, “I’m drawn to the kind of characters and stories that OTT platforms offer. You won’t find characters like Golu (her role in ‘Mirzapur’) in Bollywood. So, it’s a natural fit for me.”
Shweta on Industry Shift
Shweta emphasizes the shift in the film industry, stating, “We need more projects that reflect the world we live in. There’s nothing quite like ‘Pataal Lok’ in the film industry yet.” She elaborates on her attraction to complex characters, saying, “I prefer morally ambiguous roles because humans are not just black, white, or grey; they’re a spectrum of colours. OTT provides characters with a broader palette, allowing me to explore this complexity.”

Despite the niche audience for such content, Shweta isn’t concerned. She values the stories she wants to tell and aims to ignite meaningful conversations with her work. She shares, “I choose projects with substance. ‘Kaalkoot’ tackles toxic masculinity, ‘Made in Heaven’ addresses dowry, and ‘Masaan’ delves into caste dynamics. It’s not just about what you see on screen; it’s about the impact and meaning behind it. It’s a deliberate choice, not a coincidence.”
