Shehzada Review: This Kartik Aaryan’s Film is not Worth Your Money

Shehzada Review: Pyar Hua- suddenly, Suspense revealed – promptly, Movie Ends – abruptly, What is this?

Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Shehzada’ made a theatrical release on 17 February 2023. It is a Hindi remake of the Telugu original Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, starring Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde. Yes! Another remake or better to say, another awful remake of the Telugu hit. Why are we saying this?

Here are some reasons

The plot was taken from the 90s and 80s when babies were switched, and lived a king-size life while others had to struggle in every step. The only difference is, this time, these babies are not brothers.

Bantu, played by Kartik Aaryan, struggles hard to impressed his father, but Valmiki, played by Paresh Rawal, never get appreciated. Valmiki works for Jindals, who are among the top industrialists in Delhi. However, the company is headed by Randeep Nanda, played by Ronit Roy. Nanda and Valmiki used to work for Jindals at the same level. Still, the boss’ daughter Yashu Jindal, played by Manisha Koirala, fell in love with Nanda and the latter became the CEO of the company overnight.

This seeds jealousy in Valmiki’s heart, and he plans the whole baccha-badlo drama. The Jindal group and Sunny Hinduja share a business rivalry which becomes a reason to step Bantu into Jindal Mansion, and anything else will be a spoiler.

Well, you must be wondering where Kriti Sanon is? Like every typical Bollywood movie, Kriti is just playing the love interest of Kartik, adding no value to her character. She looked absolutely stunning and gorgeous in every shot. You can definitely take some office outfit goals from her but nothing more than that. Even Isha from Brahmastra served a purpose to Shiva.

Whenever some romance starts brewing between the two, they travel to a foreign location to sing and dance.

The story of Shehzada is too predictable. The movie tried to give out a message on female consent, like ‘No means No’ but only after lusting on Kriti’s legs. (Irony at its peak).

There is also a rant on Nepo kids (Kartik movie mai hai aur rant na ho? Not fair) to prove the point that Raj (played by Ankur Rathee) is too pampered and dependent on his parents for every single decision.

Well, we all know what makers are trying to do with this jibe.

The action sequences are directly scene by scene, shot by shot and frame by frame copied from Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.

The film emphasised the importance of family and Kartik Aaryan being selfless but witty.

Also, some veteran comedians like Rajpal Yadav, Ali Azar, Rakesh Bedi, Ashwin Mushran and Kunal Vijaykar were given a small screen space to add humour to the story. And they did their part with complete integrity.

Our Take

The fan following of Kartik Aaryan may bring the audience to the theatres, but they step out seeking for refund. Therefore, if you have paisa bahut zada, then go and watch Shehzada; otherwise, be patient till it makes an OTT release. Also, if you still wish to watch, try not to find logic and keep your brain aside.

Otherwise, binge-watch Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, which is way more worth your time.
