Wearing a bikini was so big then, she says.
Recently, the renowned Mann actress Sharmila Tagore had a conversation with the host of The Icons, Twinkle Khanna. When she was told that she had shot scenes wearing only a bikini. As for this, Tagore laughed while sharing an anecdote saying that she will never get over it. She giggled saying that the whole issue was sparked by a piece of cloth.
She said, ‘I can’t claim that it was a matter of force or request; this was purely my will.’ “But we did the whole thing spontaneously actually, and caused quite an outrage later on, and my director at the time, Mr Shakti Samanta thought that ‘people won’t take you seriously like that”.
Tagore said later that ‘there was a great deal in it for me too. I looked like an eye-catcher. I dreamt of being very popular. But one day I found that I had a good appearance.

Sharmila Tagore lets out the secret that Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was a “solid support voice”.Furthermore, she also revealed that at the time of her being left alone; her husband Mansoor Ali Khan Patauni was in London with whom she had sole voice support. Having no other way of communication, he replied that Sharmila must look good and should not fuss.
In the same interview, the experienced actor said, ‘It was such a learning curve; we learn that one could not dwell in his/her illusions of the world’. Because an individual in a public realm knows his audience; he knows where it is. So why do it? She continued with, “Because you don’t want to shock people, but you choose to make films like Aradhana”.
Katrina’s Poster Woes
“Twinkle” adds more salt to Katrina Kaif’s wounds as the latter laughs out loudly saying that she just sent all those posters away, but the entire city did follow it to her house and not around that one driver. Photos of Tagores were all over the walls and public spaces but it took great efforts to make them remove all the posters around Sharmila Taboure’s home when she came to visit her mother-in-law.
Poster Fun at Mother-in-law’s
I went because my mother-in-law was there. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and I were not married, we were only engaged. I am the one who is represented by a large poster of Shammi Kapoor with me standing right beside it. His body covers my mid-riff which makes it so that only my legs and arms remain exposed for display. Oh, that was an interesting poster! My driver and bearer used to go in the evening, get it and bring it forth. But Amma should have seen dozens of other placards. Tagore responded with laughter. When Twinkle asked if her mother-in-law had inquired about it, the experienced actor chuckled and replied, “She didn’t seem to care.”
