Sameer Wankhede Denies Personal Grudge Against SRK
Former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede has publicly addressed speculation about any personal animosity with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Speaking to HT City, Wankhede emphasized his professional approach, saying, “I am a very small man, just a government servant. How can anybody have such a grudge? These things are just loose talks.” He reiterated that his work is guided strictly by the law, the Constitution, and the established chain of command, leaving no room for personal vendettas.

The Defamation Suit Against Netflix And Red Chillies
The controversy traces back to October 2021, when Wankhede, as zonal director of the NCB, led the high-profile raid on a Mumbai cruise ship resulting in Aryan Khan’s arrest. Aryan spent almost three weeks in custody before being granted bail and was ultimately cleared in May 2022 due to lack of evidence. Allegations regarding a bribe demanded from the Khan family surfaced later, triggering a CBI investigation against Wankhede in May 2023, which he claims was politically motivated.

In September 2025, Wankhede filed a defamation lawsuit against Netflix and Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, asserting that the series Ba***ds Of Bollywood contains a malicious parody of him. He argued that the portrayal tarnishes his reputation and undermines public trust in law enforcement, making the case a significant moment in the intersection of Bollywood and legal accountability.

Clarifying The 2021 Chat Leak Allegations
Amidst the ongoing legal battle, Wankhede also addressed claims that private chats with Shah Rukh Khan from 2021 were leaked during the CBI investigation. Wankhede clarified, “There was a writ petition which I had filed before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court. In that writ I had to present some evidence in front of the court. So why will I ‘leak’ it?” He further explained that all electronic records were authenticated with a 65B certificate under India’s Evidence Act, ensuring that evidence was presented properly and legally.

Wankhede Stresses Professionalism Over Personal Issues
Throughout the controversy, Wankhede has maintained a focus on law and procedure rather than personal conflicts. By dismissing rumors of animosity with Shah Rukh Khan, he reinforces the idea that his actions are motivated by professional duty, not personal grudges. He urged the public to distinguish between media speculation and legal reality, emphasizing that the justice system remains impartial despite high-profile scrutiny.

Impact On Public Perception And Law Enforcement
The Ba***ds Of Bollywood series has sparked widespread debate about the portrayal of law enforcement in popular media. Wankhede’s defamation suit highlights the fine line between creative freedom and reputational harm. Legal experts note that the case could set a precedent for how public servants are represented in entertainment, underscoring the importance of accurate and fair depictions.

Looking Ahead In The Legal Battle
As the lawsuit progresses, both parties await court proceedings to determine whether the series indeed crosses the line into defamation. Wankhede’s clarification of the chat leaks and his dismissal of personal animosity with Shah Rukh Khan aim to keep the focus on the legal merits of the case rather than fueling media sensationalism. For Wankhede, the matter is about protecting the integrity of his position and upholding public confidence in law enforcement.
