Piku: Movie Review
Piku: Movie Review
In one of the sequence in PIKU Irfan Khan aka Rana Chaudhary, explains that how Indian toilets are better than western toilets for all those suffering from constipation. This sets the scene perfectly for the entire movie.
Director Soojit Sircar’s PIKU is about a daughter’s, Piku i.e. Deepika Padukone, relation with his ever paranoid-with-constipation father Bhaskhor Banerjee i.e. Amitabh Bachchan. Piku’s father is paranoid that something is wrong with his health and constantly complains to his daughter. Piku on the other hand has to juggle between work and home and doesn’t get anytime for her personal life. She wants to take a break and thus the duo decides to go on a trip to Kolkata, their native place. Rana Chaudhary, played by Irfan Khan, becomes the driver by accident and there begins the journey. In between their journey there are beautiful landscape, some cinematic brilliance and delicate moments.
Set in the New Delhi, PIKU deals with the much deeper concept of relationship of every child with their parent. It makes you ponder over the question that how would you have dealt with a ever so complaining parent? Sircar never fails to put ‘shit’ in every other scenario. Laughs are a plenty in the movie.
Deepika Padukone steals the show with her brilliant portrayal of PIKU as a character who is vulnerable to emotional blackmail and is filled with frustration that, you expect, could burst at anytime. Amitabh Bachchan , as always, gives a professional performance and so does Irfan Khan. Don’t miss the servant in the house as he gives some of the better moments in the movie.
You always expect some emotional scene to happen but you will get some surprises. Sometimes the Bengali accent could get to you. Every now and then, there is a pun which could be difficult to get at the first go if you are not a bengali.
I am going with 4 out if 5 star for PIKU. Go with a bag of popcorn and you will come out of with a smile on your face.
