Unveiling Cultural Elegance: North East India Fashion Week Showcases Top Designers and Local Artisans

The recently concluded North East India Fashion Week, meticulously organized by One Arunachal, has become a beacon for fashion enthusiasts and cultural aficionados alike. Over three days, more than 30 designers and weavers hailing from various corners of the region illuminated the runway with their innovative creations, leaving an indelible mark on the fashion landscape. The grand finale, a culmination of artistic brilliance, featured a stellar lineup including prominent names such as Angie Ngoba Namchoom, Yajir Mara, Bezai Jaboju, and many more.

Innovative Blend of Fashion and Culture

The closing night of the extravaganza was a spectacle, showcasing a mesmerizing fashion show by designer Anandita Karmakar and a live performance by the versatile actress-model-singer Zoe Soans. Yana Ngoba Chakpu, CEO and designer of NE India Fashion Week, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the participants, sponsors, and the community for turning the event into a tremendous success.

Inclusive Empowerment and Cultural Preservation

The event, driven by a commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and the preservation of cultural heritage, successfully brought together local designers and artisans. The primary focus on handlooms and handicrafts from the region underscored the richness of Northeastern craftsmanship. The fashion week was inaugurated on November 19 by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, setting the stage for a remarkable display of designs, starting with the Weaves of Galo tribe by Divyangjan weaver/designer Jiyi Ete.

Captivating Sequences and Top Designer Showcases

The audience was captivated by a series of enthralling sequences, including Dimoria’s by Swabalambi and Weaves of Zeme Naga by Divyangjan weaver Ikelule Pame. The second day unfolded with presentations from renowned designers, each contributing to the celebration of North Eastern craftsmanship. Gleam Dive showcased designs from Arunachal Pradesh, while Ritu Daulagaphu presented designs by Dimasa Weaver. The day was further enriched with a soul-stirring performance by folk musician Warklung Phu Ningding.

A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

Top designers such as Neeta Sidisow, Nang Watika Mantaw, Nang Wenika Namchoom, and Rupa Rebe graced the runway, showcasing a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Their creations were complemented by live performances from Apatani folk singer Tapi Uka and Arunachal Idol-fame singer Markio Tanaldo, adding a musical rhythm to the visual symphony.

In its pursuit of uniting diverse cultures through the language of fashion, North East India Fashion Week has not only celebrated the craftsmanship of the region but has also set a precedent for future events that embrace the rich tapestry of Northeastern traditions and contemporary expressions.
