National Cinema Day 2024 is a day that aims at fostering the memory of the national and reflecting on the 75-year history of the Indian cinema. Celebrated to pay tribute to the impact of films in culture and entertainment this day is a reminder of the role of the “moving pictures” in defining social, political, and cultural life of the country.

National Cinema Day was celebrated for the first time in 2019 by the Multiplex Association of India to achieve a social cause to enjoy the film with affordable prices. It is often marked with movie tickets usually being sold at vastly reduced prices that could easily be afforded by all classes in society to sample the theatre’s cinema. The day essentially becomes a way of building empathy where the audience gets to understand movies differently auxiliary to the streaming platforms.
Indian cinema is evolving and expanding and for getting a wider understanding of its evolution a quick look over its a brief history is necessary.
Bollywood cinema has its origin that began over a century ago. The first Indian full length feature film named Raja Harishchandra was made by Dadasaheb Phalke, sometimes referred to as the ‘father of Indian cinema and was released in the year 1913.

Beginning with the silent films and the Advent of Talkies and Journey to Bollywood, Regional cinema and virtual Indian films and beyond. Presently, India ranks among the largest movie makers internationally, with movies produced in the different Indian languages, and in different genres.

2. Global Recognition: Indian movies especially Indian movies from Bollywood have received international accreditations today with films like Lagaan, Slumdog Millionaire, RRR in the market.
3. Box Office Milestones: And still Indian movies set new records on box office some movies even crossed ₹1000 crore mark at worldwide collection.
