Munmun Dutta Opens Up About Missing Disha Vakani: “We Always Remember Those Who Left” and Reflects on Their Time Together on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah
Actress Munmun Dutta of TMKOC fame who plays the character of Babyta Ji has come forward to speak about Disha Vakani’s exit from the show. During an interview, Munmun also replayed an interaction with Disha, who plays one of the most loved characters of Dayaben. Munmun said everyone mourns loss and she really misses Disha and the crew those quit the show saying, ‘Even when folks quit the show, we always remember them and vice versa’ we often sit together and laugh; ‘oh do you remember when Disha said this or that’, I have so many good memories with Disha. Whenever Disha would receive a call from an unknown number, she would mimic the voice while responding.

The show’s longevity and the remarkable performance of Disha Vakani as Daya Tappu Ke Papa Gada were something that the audiences valued. Nevertheless, she permanently departed from the program in June 2017 due to her maternity leave and never resumed. The producer of the show Asit Modi has frequently talked about the current talent hunt for the new Dayaben. “The viewers of the show have been eager to watch their lovely Dayaben return to the program,” Modi said to E-Times in an interview in August 2023 about the casting of the character: “It is not an easy task to cast the role and it will be a challenge for any actress to replace Disha.”
He confessed during the interview that quite frequently he gets a feeling of tiredness to respond to the queries regarding Dayaben’s comeback but at the same time he gets the responsibility to address the same issues of the fans. He also shared how much he misses the original Daya Bhabhi aka Disha Vakani, “Even today if there is one Daya bhabhi aka Disha Vakani we wish she comes back, Disha is like my sister, she wants to be with her kids, she has two kids, if she doesn’t want to come let’s not force her.”

It is not the first time that an actor has quit TMKOC in the show’s 16-year-run, and Disha Vakani may not be unique in that aspect. The show has lost a few actors, like Raj Anadkat, Gurucharan Singh, Jennifer Mistry, and Kush Shah. Munmun’s thoughts highlight the close friendships among the cast and the lasting effect of those who have left the popular comedy series.
