Munawar Faruqui Apologizes for Controversial Joke on Konkani People Following Backlash; Twitter Reacts with Mixed Emotions and Criticism
Recently, Munawar Faruqui, the famous stand up comedian and the winner of Bigg Boss 17, created a controversy during a live show when he allegedly made a mockery of Konkani people. The comment that was deemed defamatory was received with a lot of controversy on the social media page which forced Faruqui to apologize publicly for his comment.

In the derogatory video in question, Faruqui performs for his audience, crack a joke using the line Konkani log c****** banate hai (Konkanis fool others). The fury was instant, and the comedian was forced to bite the bullet and explain himself through another video posted on X. In his defense, Faruqui asserted that he never intended to offend or disrespect anyone. In Marathi, he said, “Sahi bala anksha n nrivglaghar Konkanis,” which translates to “much love and my apologies to Konkanis.”

Faruqui went on to explain that this joke was enjoyed by the entire audience, irrespective of their origin, Marathi, Muslims or Hindus and so on present at the show. He noted that he never expected such a reaction and stated that the organization understood the regret of their decision and needed to respond sincerely. Finally, he said his sorry speech with, “Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra” in a very emotional manner.

This received a mixed reaction from the Twitterati over at Twitter, which is where Mr. Carter found himself posting an apology. Some of the users encouraged his action and one said, ‘Not necessary, but it’s glad you talked about it. Thanks.” Others were sarcastic and said things like ‘You were scared,’ ‘Why did you talk about it?’ While the audience has remained divided, Faruqui’s effort to make peace with his objectionable remarks shows that comedians need to tread a thin line of humor.
