Movie Review: NH10
NH10, directed by Navdeep Singh, is a story about a young urban couple- Meera (Anushka Sharma) and Arjun (Neil Bhoopalam). The movie starts with conversation between Meera and Arjun about a party they are heading to. In middle of the party, Meera gets a call from her office and she leaves from there quite late at night. While on her way to office, she is being attacked by a few unknown men. Though she escapes, this incident leaves her traumatised and Arjun feels himself responsible as he wasn’t there to protect her.
To compensate and make her feel better, Arjun plans to treat Meera with a luxurious holiday. As they are on the way, they stop by a roadside which turns out to be the turning point!
The movie is quite a thriller but also slow in the beginning and fails to grab the attention. However, it’s only after entrance of Satbir (Darshan Kumar) the story catches a pace and some interest. The fighting sequences would definitely shake your soul and what makes the entire plot relatable is the realistic appearance of the screenplay.
The director has done a good background research as he has included a lot of real life incidents in the story, for example: beliefs of people in outskirts of Haryana and the 2011 incident where at a toll booth a 27years old boy was shot just because he asked for change. As far as acting is concerned, Darshan Kumar who was seen in a subtle role till now, has completely overshadowed Neil Bhoopalam and Anushka Sharma with his intense and aggressive character.
Anushka had stepped in two boats, as a producer and an actor, together but has successfully sailed through. She is quite convincing throughout but it’s in the second half where she just booms everyone with her acting and action. As far as Neil Bhoopalam is concerned, he’s been quite good in supporting role.
The music/background score makes sense and is placed according to the scene and doesn’t let you move out of the mood. Half of the movie has been plotted in Gurgoan and rest has been shot in northern plains of North. Produced by Vikramaditya Motwane, Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, Anushka Sharma, Sunil and Krishika Lulla, NH10 is for someone who loves sensible and intelligent stories and someone who loves his/her money and would like to spend on a ‘good’ movie. We rate it 3.5 on 5, because it’s worth it.
